Activities

Alsace is a region of unspoiled countryside and traditions, its offers a wide variety of scenery and places to visit. It is rich in historical and cultural perpectives and has an exceptionalty rich heritage in cuisine.There are any number of things to see or to do in the region: nature sites, wine tastings, lovely restaurants and farm-inns, museums, monuments, rural heritage, nature trails, footpaths, mountain-bike circuits, organised activities and events: nature expeditions, guided visits of villages and towns, concerts, village fairs and festivals, country markets and so on. > Alsace wine: Wine route, cellars and wine tastings, the seven Alsatian grapes are like divine nectar to your taste: the most famous carry the "Grand Cru" label

> Gastronomy : More than a tradition, gastronomy is a way of life here. You will find in Alsace 31 Michelin starred chefs who take inspiration from local recipes to create a refined and original cuisine for an exceptional moment. > Vosges mountains:
The Route des Crêtes unfolds the ballons, fields of grain, lakes and passes so characterist of the Vosges.
Places to discover : Grand Ballon: the summit of the Vosges at 1424m, Markstein: winter sports resort, the Hohneck range at 1362m, lakes,, Gérardmer, lac des Corbeaux, lac du Forley, lac du Ballon, Schissrothried, reservoir lake at Wildenstein, lac d'Alfeld...

> The wine route : cross this vineyard famous all over the word, each village is a source of enchantment: renaissance frontages and gables, sandstone basements supporting half-timbered houses, arched cellars, flower-bedecked foutains, the wellknown, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Turkheim and his night watchman, Ribeauvillé, Eguisheim, Colmar and the Petite Venise. Others less known invite you to discover them, amoung our favorites, Niedermorschwihr where one of the the most popular pastrycook of France has his shop, the secret Gueberschwihr , the historic center of Rouffach dominated by Isenbourg castel, with the old Renaissance town hall and many old streets..Guebwiller at the door of the Florival valley with 200.000 flowers and more than 2000 trees, thus joining the 86 towns awarded the "4 flowers" classification. http://www.alsace-passion.com

> The fried carp route : cross the Sungau undulating and green with its numerous ponds

> The dry hills : Bollenberg, Strangenberg...the summit of the limestone hills looks out over an unusual landscape of dry moorland somewhat reminiscent of the Mediterranean garrigue or scrubland. x Heritage and culture
 

>Medieval castles, the castle of the Haut Koenigsbourg is the most visited castle in Alsace with the Hohlandsbourg, (route des 5 châteaux) these two castles organise guided tours, middle age events. You will also find a lot of castels more or less in ruins

> Religious edifices : Guebwiller, situated on the Alsace Romanesque Route, is famous for its many pink sandstone monuments, the late Romanesque church of Saint-Léger, the Gothic Dominican monastery, and in the surrounding aera, the collegiate church at Lautenbach, Murbach Abbey founded in the 8th century are amongst the most beautiful examples of Roman art in Alsace

> Famous persons : Frédéric Bartholdi, creator of the statue of Liberty in New York, the Doctor Albert Schweitzer, Gutenberg, inventor of the printing, Hansi for his paintings and his shop signs

> Military story : the Vieil Armand, one of the bloodiest battles on the Alsace front (1915), classified as a national monument in 1921 is teeming with trenches, underground passages and shelters reminding us of the fighting. On the summit, the luminous cross dominates the military cemetery, and the unforgetable view takes in the plain of Alsace, the Vosges mountains chain, the Black Forest and even the Alps in good weather. http://www.abri-memoire.org
