Orschwihr is a winemaking village with a population of 1000, situated on the Alsace Wine Route, south of Colmar in the Ballons des Vosges National Park, beneath the highest summits of the Vosges, Grand Ballon and Markstein.

East of the village is the Bollenberg, a dry and arid limestone hill well kown by the naturalists, which is a habitat for many species of rare plants and wildlife (praying mantis, orchids, green lizard, hoopoe, wryneck...).

The main activity is the winegrowing. The Route des Crêtes (Peaks route) is quickly and easily accessed though Guebwiller and the Florival Valley which recently received the label "Pays d'Art et d'Histoire"
